Message for all groups: assignment for next week (March 16 and 17)

Dear students,

Here is an assignment based on 4 questions. Choose 3 out of 4 and hand-in your paper next Monday or Tuesday (March 16 or 17) depending on your group or email it to me in case you are absent for the class. In case you are late and your paper is not ready on next Monday or Tuesday, I will remove 3 points, and 3 more points per 24 hours. Last deadline: Thursday, March 19 at 8am.

Though many of you may not have come last Tuesday (March 10) and I know that there was no class last Monday (March 09), however you are all supposed to check this site on a regular basis.

Your paper can be either typed or handwritten but double spacing is required. I will remove 2 points if your paper is not double-spaced. I will also remove 2 points for each deadly mistake (capitalization rules, basic grammar rules, use of contracted forms). New students can email me for clarifications if need be.

1/ Listen to this extract (05:15-05:52) and explain in around 80/100 words, this quote by Lance Price: "...secret relationships between very powerful people are not healthy in an open liberal democracy..."

2/ Listen to this extract (05:52-10:05) and explain/discuss in around 80/100 words, this quote by Lance Price: "They have failed, it is not that Murdoch has succeeded, he's just done what he's supposed to do."

3/ Listen to this extract (10:05-14:23) and explain/discuss in around 80/100 words other aspects of censorship from Dean Baquet's experience at The Los Angeles Times.

4/ Listen to this extract (15:30-18:33) and explain/discuss in around 80/100 words what happened to Josh Wolff and to what extent, this could NOT have happened in a mainstream media newspaper.

Best regards,

Mounir Nassor (mounirnassor@yahoo.co.in)
